Bits from the backlog

img_1458There have been other book buys. Books have been added to the boxes currently still in storage at my grandmother’s house. A few books have been bought, read, and given away since last report. Just take this as a small sample of the additions… one lunchtime’s gatherings from the most excellent Oxfam Books by Turnham Green tube station.

img_1438Despite best attempts to Buy No More Stuff before moving house, the protracted sale process has inevitably led, if not to a complete surrendering of principle, at least a little softening on the basis of Can Buy Stuff If Really Needed. Which is, of course, a little elastic. Books (as above) are of course always Needed. And I did Need a new fluoro waterproof anorak for cycling (£1, car boot sale at Poynings). Why was I at a boot fair in the first place? To sell stuff, of course; didn’t get rid of much that afternoon, but I did come back with that anorak and a folding camping chair from my stall-mate, Lucy, which is Useful since we no longer have any garden furniture.

img_1477And finally in this bulletin covering general backlog of Items Gained, a small metal desk, found in our road by D, to substitute for the one prematurely given away just before the house sale fell through (for the first time). It’s not very comfortable, nor does it have the mojo of my old desk from my teenage bedroom (now at Maria’s flat), but it is – like much in our lives right now – an Interim Solution.
