My grandmother pulled this dress out of her wardrobe; she made it herself, like most of her summer dresses, and I think I remember her wearing it on the beach in the late 1970s. Sadly, though it fitted me width-wise, it’s way, way too short and would only function effectively as a vest. Handily, I was on my way days later to a girly clothes-swap, and rockabilly Jo, a good bit shorter than me and a bit more amenable than me to kitschy retro these days, was the obvious new caretaker. Two more granny items – a long button-through paisley dress and a similarly-patterned long skirt, which I forgot to photograph, went to Sarah. This clothes-swap proved another effective way to pass on some more unwanted items, my no longer having enough to do another car boot sale stall but continuing to clear out and dispose of things, little by little… And I came back – gladly – with nothing, though a most pleasant evening was had by all (cheers, Elaine).
