Yeah, so I bought another mac the week before. But this one is better. Much better. It’s a mid-thigh length, khaki silk Issey Miyake trenchcoat, which hangs beautifully buttons undone or belted up, and which is a perfect length. And it cost me just £5 from the Brighton Marina car boot sale; the only thing wrong with it is that it’s missing buttons from the (deep) pockets, but a. left undone you wouldn’t notice, and b. between my mother and grandmothers’ immense button collections, I’m sure I can turn up some very similar replacements very shortly.
I wore this straight away to a private view to launch the design students’ summer show at the Royal College of Art (get me) and can happily say that I looked the part. Out of interest, the rest of my outfit included a black Cos dress (August 2013) and the Grenson brogues (October 2014) – an ensemble that’s done me proud a few times now, including at a (successful) job interview. Incidentally, I still have the Wallis trenchcoat (October 2012), which is an absolute spring/autumn staple, although I have removed the detachable fake fur collar and cuffs.
