I had high hopes of the jumble sale at the local Steiner School – was thinking there’d perhaps be a fair selection of interesting, artsy clothing and homewares – and in terms of sheer volume of finds it utterly failed to live up to expectation. Still, I had one splendid find: a silvery full-length Aquascutum trenchcoat (£1). Not quite sure how I feel about it as yet, as it’s very long and it turned out to be a bit too voluminous for my liking, however. Also – not pictured – a long brown Zara cardigan-coat (also £1), which was a bit small and misshapen-looking once on, so it’s headed for the car boot sale pile; an overdyed blue lightweight cotton smock-top (50p) which looks too much like maternity wear, so ditto; and a 50p pair of H&M skinny jeans for D, which fit him perfectly. He anguished for a few minutes as to whether he is now too old to wear such a tight-fitting pair, then gloated about how he still had a 32-inch waist and wore them (after washing them) all weekend.
