Braving the snow with C for some bargain-hunting: jumble sales in Chailey and Crowborough, both good. She stole the march on me by having already made an expedition to The Secret Animal Charity Shop earlier in the morning before my arrival at her place, but I soon caught up on the tally of finds (successful, wanted and otherwise). First up, an experiment: vintage camel coat, very crumpled and in need of a good steam-clean, but a nice hip-length, swing style. As with earlier attempts at coats this shape, it has no front fastenings, which irks me (and makes it useless for wearing while cycling) but I’m going to see what I can do with a large button or two and some duffle toggle-type arrangements. At 50p, it’s worth a go. Below, two practical tops – navy Petit Bateau long-sleeve T-shirt (‘age 16’, but stretchy) and khaki Next wearing-to-the-office blouse, plus a pink ’70s man-shirt (to be passed on); and two cardigans, both Wrong and straight to the car boot sale bag. The striped one (a German brand) is too prim and middle-aged, and the other one just makes me look like a crazy old cat lady.
