First finds of the year

As far as charity shop finds go, my year has started rather well: apart from a whole pile of books (a post on which will follow), I’ve added to the shoe cuplboard this rather lovely light brown pair of Pied A Terre brogues (£20 as-new, from the very excellent Fara shop on Elgin Crescent). The same Friday – following a fruitless but very pleasant stroll through Portobello Market – the generally interesting Oxfam on Westbourne Park Grove turned out to be having an everything-£1 sale; I came away with a vintage tweed coat which is, on reflection, pretty frumpy-looking. And despite much steaming, it continues to reek, so this one’s a non-starter. Far more successfully, but entirely unphotogenically, the knee-length, stretchy black Dorothy Perkins skirt (£3.50 from Oxfam in Blatchington Road, Hove) is a winner.
