Finnish that shift

P1010438Brighton estate agents have taken to calling the London Road area “up and coming” and even “trendy”. Oh yes. It was inevitable, once we got a couple of half-decent cafes.  The gentrification process has yet to reach the unlovely New England House and Vantage Point (which do, at least, serve a very useful purpose of providing cheap office-space for start-ups, small businesses and community groups) and their immediate surroundings, however, such as the even less attractive Circus Parade which the towers overshadow. One of the few good reasons to go there, nonetheless, is the long-established and friendly Rayment Cycles – and when collecting my bike from yet another puncture repair job, I got tempted by the for-sale rails outside the nearby fancy-dress hire shop. Printed cotton shift dress (£4), probably 1970s, and Finnish: not Marimekko, though it’d pass as such, but Fenno Sport, a label clearly thinking along similar lines at the time.
