Not going to bore you at this stage of proceedings with a title-by-title rundown of the week’s secondhand book purchases – zoom in on the photos if you must – but I must admit to buying these four Pan paperbacks solely on the basis of their kitsch cover designs. The rest, I might actually read, though I’ve already given a large art history tome – catalogue of the art treasures of the Royal family – to my mother. Lots on the inventories and archives of the Brighton Royal Pavillion and the artefacts from the Prince Regent’s relationship with Mrs Fitzherbert (much ornate crockery). Oh, and yes, I admit to buying yet more plates, albeit not as decorative and ostentatious as the Royal tableware. Just the two, in cheery colours, from Habitat: they match my set of green and yellow mugs and were only 50p… Crockery cull coming up, on the one-in, one-out rule.
