Black and blue

Jumble  sale in Rottingdean #2: a rather oddball pair of jackets. Black nylon quilted, Paul Smith, with corduroy collar and turquoise fleece lining; this sort of thing appears to be rather fashionable at the moment and I certainly wasn’t expecting to find such a thing so quickly at a jumble sale, let alone from a designer label. But there’s a catch: it’s a kid’s one, and though it was obviously sized for a loose fit on a 12-year old, it’s just that bit too small for me. It’s been well-worn, too.

I saw two very dapper Italian boys on the Tube last night, identically dressed in skinny jeans, tasselled loafers and black jackets remarkably similar to this – worn under open grey herringbone-tweed bum-freezer jackets. An interesting layering-up, and I bet their jackets were rather more expensive than this one (20p). On an entirely different note, a very Mod navy school blazer, the real deal (Beau Brummel, 1960s), also 20p and big enough for a slender full-grown chap.
