Three gathered knee-length skirts – all home-made, obviously by the same woman to the same pattern – in a rather fine old needlecord; 20p each, from jumble sale in Plumpton. I do like a bit of corduroy and had the vague idea that I might cut these up to make cushions or something. The skirts actually look quite good on, however – very ’50s, with their nipped-in high waist, front pockets and flared shape. I could imagine them worn with a shirt knotted at the waist, a headscarf and a dash of red lipstick. Or maybe I’ll just cut them up.
