Not that I ride much these days – an occasional trot out on C’s old horse – but it’s always good to have a stock of decent and correct garb just in case. Two pairs of breeches, one pair of full-length jodphurs, £5 from the last car boot sale of the season at Poynings. I’ll chuck away the old black ones mouldering at the bottom of the wardrobe. Other find of the week: a John Irving I’ve not read, 50p from the car boot sale at Brighton Marina. Also on an equestrian tip, there was a guy with a wonderful pair of buckled leather half-chaps (to fit over the lower leg and top of ankle-length boots), which I was very tempted by, but he wanted £10 for them and I suspect they were better-suited for playing cowboys in a decorative sense than for actually riding a horse in.
