Canal annals

C has cleared her bookshelves in anticipation of the rich pickings at the annual Crowborough  Hospital Summer Fair (August Bank Holiday Monday), which usually has the biggest secondhand book stall I’ve ever seen. I pulled out this gem for my uncle, a maritime historian and a collector/hoarder who makes me look like a minimalist: a 1950s pictorial guide to The Inland Waterways of England, complete with hand-drawn map of all the canals of the time. (I know ‘maritime’ means ‘sea’. But it’s all old boats, isn’t it?).
