My mother’s skirts

usual shop june 2009 009At some point in the late 1970s, my mother made herself a pair of cotton summer dresses. At another point in the 1980s, she decided to chop them up to make a couple of skirts  – but asked my grandmother to put in the waistbands for her. The skirts subsequently disappeared into a large heap of fabric which then didn’t see the light of day for around 25 years. I found them recently, my granny finally finished them off, and though the brown one with different patterned panels is too big, I may well wear the red and white print. I clearly remember my mother wearing the original dress.
